Dental Braces West Miami
The oral health benefits of dental braces are abundant. Crooked, misplaced, and crowded teeth can make cleaning very difficult, causing a risk of tooth decay, which is not only unsightly and painful, but also affects your overall health.
Modern orthodontics practices offer various treatment options to help you or a loved one achieve a healthy smile with straight teeth and a properly-aligned jaw. The most common dental braces appliances are traditional metal brackets and clear braces.
Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that deals with corrections involving teeth and jaw aligning.
There are different types of orthodontic appliances. The most common are:
- Conventional metal brackets and wires
- Clear braces (ceramic)
- Plastic clear braces
All braces mentioned above involve cementing brackets to the front of your teeth.
Typically preferred for children orthodontics, traditional metal braces are very strong and are capable of correcting more moderate to severe tooth misalignment concerns.
For adults who do not want to wear metal brackets, we offer clear ceramic or plastic brackets. They are more aesthetic and usually more comfortable.
Getting your braces
In your initial treatment, our dentist will need to make a mold of your teeth and take multiple x-rays of the head and mouth. Brackets will then be cemented onto the teeth, wired together and continuously adjusted to slowly move the teeth into the desired position.
The entire process can take anywhere from 6 to 30 months. Once treatment is completed, patient will need to wear retainers in order to keep teeth in place.
